Transience

The droning tick, counting
Every second, every day,

A dull ache of  breast,
Ragged, haggard, heavy;

Impel the effete awake,
-- slowly fade away;

Breath is just a clock,
ticking. ticking. ticking...

Skin Deep (working title)

Ravenous feast of flesh.

                                                   Insatiable desires.

                                                                                                  Chasing hollow hunger.

Insomnia (working title)

A creeping darkness
To swallow the shadows --
A rising sun in the night.

A tranquil delight
That saps the strength,
To rob the mind of muse.

A Ceaseless Mind

A ceaseless mind finely embossed
With that of which it has lost.
A rift agape, torn apart –
Between ignorance and thought.

New York

The pretty little girls walking on the streets look so sad in this gold lined city.
Why is this so? Isn't this the city of dreams,
The city where big dreams and desires are fulfilled?
Yes, but it comes with a price.

It’s a city that does nothing at all, but takes all the credit.
It’s a place that promises so much but offers so little.
Out-labeled, and out-maneuvered,
There’s nothing left here but the dreams of others.

Smiling faces gaze out through the shop glass windows,
Faces that promise the same façade as the dummies on display.
Consumerism, greed, pretentious acceptance – they reek of it.
There’s money in the air, ripe for the taking – just reach out and take it.

The hustle and bustle is only pitch black smokescreen,
An elaborately crafted diversion to rob the blind, to keep the cognizant content.
An army of marching ants stuck in the routine of the daily drag.
Do they purposely serve, or serve purposely?

They perceive freedom, believe in freedom,
But are stuck like a rat in a cage, pulling minimum wage.
Trading freedom of thought and expression for freedom of routine –
A prison bathed in social acceptance, glorified for its order.

Routine, consumerism, self-indulgence – this, their true religion.
Chasing hollow jobs to buy materialistic symbols of petty self-accomplishment.
Voices sing of success, but eyes speak of doubt.
In an age of monetary wealth, how wealthy is the soul?

White Walls

Freedom, freedom at last
No more am I held captive,
My joy shackled by the burdens of this place.
Home – peace, serenity, normality.

I am myself, nothing more, nothing less.
Burdens lift, childhood fantasies re-birthed –
Like tree blossoms in the warm spring air.
I am free – for now.

The new light beats back the creeping darkness,
My mind is preoccupied with the day's activities.
Do not think, but do with exuberance –
The clock ticks away the last of my sanity.

I am drowned in shadow of the sky.
As I lay my barriers decay and crumble –
My resolve weans; the parasite awakens.
End me now dear fiend, for your torture kills me so.

Persistence, for I am not alone;
Or am I? - my fiend whispers
The brain-fog clouds my thoughts,
The path is unclear.

Hold on; resolve,
But the consciences conflict.
Reason, side with the victor –
For he will be your fate.

Ending Is Beginning

This ever mocking infernal place,
For I am nothing but one,
Minuscule, meaningless part of space.
Envy of many, wanted by none.

Leave me to my self-righteous fate.
Gaze at the reflection of my own face,
Devoid eyes receiving nothing but hate.
Worry not, it shall be over with much haste.

The silvery glint of freedom as I start,
Deliberate, calculated movement center.
A welcome arrow though the heart;
Collapse at last – my haven I enter.

Enjoy the last sigh of breath –
The sweet embrace of death.

Timid Love

Come on timid love,
There is nothing left to fear.
Your soul will float like a dove.
Come on, please just last the year.

What is it that scares you so?
You burn hotter than the sun,
But soon turn cold – so quick to go.
What is it that have I done?

Teased by your calming warmth,
How can you expect me to be
So quick to release you forth?
You will always haunt me.

Someday my pain will harness your blame,
And in the morning I’ll walk through.
But for now my heart is mine to tame,
Take up your spine and run me through.
